The owners of this remodeled home were looking for a dramatic, contemporary refuge with sleek and sculptural euro-style detailing. The wife wanted every surface and material to have detail and visual interest. The centerpiece of the bedroom wing side of this home is the master bath which was lavished with exotic art materials and assemblies. The materials were explored with the use of a scale model which helped the wife to visualize the space and material options and to see how they tied together.
The new master suite is entered through a short hall vestibule that is separated from the bath by art glass partitions with a door and a sculptural storage block painted with three accent colors. The ceiling of the whole suite above is clad with white cedar and visually ties the three spaces of bed, bath and hall together though the bedroom is separated by a partition with glass penetrations.
Through the glass door is the spacious bath with commode and shower spaces further defined with more panels of the art glass. Above these spaces are canopies for venting and lighting made of acrylic panels and perforated metal crown. The other surface materials are green marble floors, yellow marble counters/tub surround, and glass mosaic wall tiles. The floor is perforated with accents of the yellow counter material and the walls are accented with bronze squiggle tiles. The mahogany vanity with aluminum legs has patinized bronze vessel sinks with Italian Boffi wall faucets. The luxurious soaking tub is set in its own alcove with glass block and a curved soffit that houses lighting and the ceiling-mounted laminar tub filler by Kohler. The many layers of lighting are controlled by a Lutron lighting control system.
The attention to detailing and materials creates a peaceful and stunning retreat.
